SDG REPORTING
To facilitate the preparation of Trinidad and Tobago’s first Voluntary National Review (VNR) Report, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) sub-regional headquarters for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) recruited Mr. Wendell Thomas as a statistical consultant to execute the data compilation and processing components of the VNR.
This activity involved working closely with the Central Statistical Office (CSO) as well as personnel at the Ministry of Planning and Development, Trinidad and Tobago. As statistical consultant Mr. Thomas was responsible for data mapping activities, computing SDG indices and identifying strategies to improve preparation of the indices in future monitoring and evaluation initiatives.
TRAVEL DEMAND SURVEY
With this particular project, we coordinated and executed the design of the survey research methodology, data collection and data processing for a Household Travel Demand Survey executed by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of the West Indies, St Augustine.
The study sought to link the reported travel patterns of household members surveyed with available data and information on the national transportation system to better understand how households make their travel decisions on a daily basis. This study, the first of its kind locally, provided useful baseline data that would be used to better inform policies with respect to the transformation system.
TRAINING IN DATA ANALYSIS
A team of consultants headed by Mr. Wendell Thomas ( who is a SPSS and data analysis expert), was contracted to provide a two-week training workshop on Census Data Analysis and Interpretation hosted by the Government of Grenada in collaboration with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).
The workshop was designed to strengthen the analytical and interpretive skills of staff of the CSO and line ministries in Grenada and facilitated 24 participants including participants from Belize, British Virgin Islands, and Cayman Islands and staff from the CARICOM Secretariat. Participants were trained in preparing and analysing data in SPSS to support advocacy efforts at reinforcing the importance of using empirical data to systematically inform the decision-making process.
CENSUS DATA PROCESSING
We performed the role of Data Processing Consultant for the CARICOM Secretariat with responsibility for generating statistical tables for preparation of national census reports for CARICOM member states. The project involved producing the analysis and dissemination of census data and results, which comprised the preparation of National Census Reports (NCRs) and Regional Special Topic Monographs (RSTMs).
